Less Predictable Weather
Nearly every harvest still hangs on the rain, and the rain no longer keeps a schedule.1 One mistimed planting can cost a farmer the whole season.
HingaSmart gives farmers around the world real-time weather alerts, climate insights, and AI-powered advice they can actually use in the field.
Farmers today face pressures that older methods just can't keep up with on their own.
Nearly every harvest still hangs on the rain, and the rain no longer keeps a schedule.1 One mistimed planting can cost a farmer the whole season.
A single pest can clear a field before anyone even names it. Fall armyworm spread from the Americas to farms across Africa and Asia in just a few years,2 and it attacks more than 80 crops, maize most of all.
When something goes wrong in the field, there's usually no expert to ask. Across Sub-Saharan Africa most farmers say extension help rarely reaches them,3 so problems get caught too late, if at all.
Without good information, every choice about when to irrigate, spray, or feed the crop is a guess, and a wrong one burns through water and cash a farmer can't spare.4
Advice built for the average farm fits no one. It can't see your soil, your rainfall, or your crops, and without local data even the best models stop being accurate.5
The bigger picture is sobering: staple yields like maize, millet, and sorghum could fall 20–30% in parts of Africa by 2050,6 while more mouths go hungry each year.
HingaSmart doesn't just collect farming data. It uses that data to create practical advice farmers can act on, and gives them one place to find research, expert guidance, and everyday know-how: the community forum. Every advisory is tuned to each farm's location, crops, soil, and weather.
"The knowledge farmers need already exists — it's just scattered and hard to reach. We bring it together, turn it into advice that fits each farm, and get it to millions of farmers in the language they actually speak."
Hourly and 7-day forecasts with full field conditions — and advisories that open into exact steps, like holding off on fertilizer before heavy rain.
Your crop's whole season, step by step, from land preparation to storage. Every step opens into a full guide with what to do — and audio you can listen to.
Practical guidance from agronomists, researchers, and extension officers — in text, audio, video, and pictures. Only verified experts can post.
When the rains will start, how long they'll last, and which varieties finish in time — with decades of local rainfall history behind every number.

COMING SOONGood advice starts with good data. HingaSmart pulls from established scientific and national institutions, so what farmers get is backed by real research, not guesswork.
All that data feeds into a system that combines AI with climate science and turns it into clear answers a farmer can use.
It knows your farm, crops, and conditions, so the answers fit you instead of some average.
Combines satellite, weather, and past data to see risk coming, season by season.
Spots likely pest pressure and yield problems before they get out of hand.
Explains the science in the language each farmer knows best.
Validated climate, crop, and soil data plus published research.
Verified extension officers and agronomists publish guidance — in text, audio, video, and pictures — straight to HingaSmart.
It pulls every source together, checks it, and keeps learning, so the science and the experts' know-how become advice farmers can use.

HingaSmart isn't starting from zero. Its first version shipped under an earlier name, DACA — a platform of our own that the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT and PABRA brought in as the digital advisory tool for a ten-country agro-climate programme they spearheaded. In their hands, our technology delivered:
Advisory delivered through trainers and partner institutions, reaching farmers second-hand — and still moving the numbers above.
Rebuilt from the ground up: hyperlocal forecasting, a full-season crop advisory, verified experts, and USSD on the way.
Figures reported from the 2023 agro-climate advisory training programme led by the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT and PABRA, in which DACA — HingaSmart's earlier release — was deployed as the digital advisory tool. DACA has always been a separate product from those organisations.
Core advisories, weather forecasts, and climate alerts are available to every farmer at no cost. Advanced features and partner programs may include premium options for cooperatives and organizations.
Today HingaSmart runs as an app with a connection. We're building USSD access so that anyone with any mobile phone — no smartphone, no data, no internet — can get the same weather advisories, crop guidance, and alerts by dialling a short code. The goal is simple: no farmer is left out because of the phone in their pocket or the network where they farm.
HingaSmart is available in English today. Local-language support — including Kinyarwanda, Swahili, and French — is in development, so farmers will soon get every advisory in the language they know best.
HingaSmart covers major staple crops including maize, beans, Irish potato, and rice, with a step-by-step crop advisory for each — and more crops plus livestock guidance being added.
Our guidance combines AI with climate science and agronomy research from partners like CGIAR, and it keeps improving over time. It's there to support your own judgment, not replace it.
Simply create your farm profile with your location, crops, and farm size. HingaSmart then tailors every forecast, alert, and recommendation specifically to your conditions.
